Philip Grey: A London-based photographer.

I began my photography career in the late 70s post-punk music scene, working for New Musical Express, The Face, Time Out and New Music News. During this period I produced publicity images for Adam and the Ants, The 2-Tone label, The Raincoats and Mikey Dread.

In the 80's I expanded my practice to include theatre and dance photography, working with Janet Smith and Dancers, Arc, Rosemary Lee and London Contemporary Dance Co.

In 1994 I was a finalist in the Kobal Portrait Photography Awards (now known as the Taylor Wessing Prize), and I have had work exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London; Watershed, Bristol; The Royal Photographic Society, Bath and the Lucy Bell Gallery, St Leonards. More recently his Writers’ Desks project was shown at Freeword, London and Ludlow Assembly Rooms.

My work has been published in The Guardian; ArtWork: Seeing Inside The Creative Process; How I Write: The Secret Lives of Authors; Fred Baier: Furniture in Studio.

Recent practice has encompassed studio-based portraiture and still-life work. Alongside this career I have taught both analogue and digital photography at London Guildhall University and I am currently Senior Lecturer at Regent's University, London.

In 2018 I was one of the founders of darkroom, a co-working space for film-based photographers.
